Gravity affects us all. It pulls us down. We bend and compress at the joints, especially the spine. It has a significant influence on our posture, pulling us down and forward.  Our bending and crumpling accelerates as we get older.   It is common for height to decrease by several centimeterrs/inches. This causes stress and fatigue on our muscles, ligaments and joints.   It leads to accelerated wear and chronic pain as we depart from our vertical alignment.   From youth to old age, our modern lifestyle increases the reasons why we get bent over.  The compression in height also compresses and puts stress on our internal organs and affects their function.   Bulging occurs around the mid section and loss of core strength.    We are now becoming more aware of the damage caused to our bodies by a lifetime of poor posture.

The PostureJac is a posture correcter and activater for people of all ages and shapes. It is not just for bent folks who need to straighten up, it is also for straight folks who don't want to get bent. Good posture is essential to overall health, along with diet, exercise and stress management.   Our best defense against gravity is to allow it to flow through us, rather than to us.

"When we see a disturbance in standing function, we can be certain of finding general malfunctions within the whole human system." Thomas Hanna

"Spinal pain, headache, mood, blood pressure, pulse, and lung capacity are among the functions most easily influenced by posture..........Many symptoms, including pain, may be moderated or eliminated by improved posture." See full quote on improved posture.

What is the PostureJac?

The PostureJac is an orthopaedic support and exercise device that guides  the body in learning a mechanism to develop stronger and better posture.

As it comfortably sits on your shoulders, it reminds you of proper posture.   Pressing down on the handles creates a mechanism that mobilizes the body to correct alignment.  It feels like a lift.  It provides support and stability for those who need it.  Exercises designed to restore and support good posture are included with the PostureJac on an attractive sheet  - and  displayed and professionally demonstrated on the Exercises page.

Using the PostureJac as little as five minutes a day promotes proper alignment; stretching, strengthening and mobilizing along the length of the spine. This reduces tension in the neck, back and shoulders. The effects of stress on your body can be lessened and you become aware of a new normal position.  As a result you will feel taller, lighter and stronger.

The PostureJac is available in S,M,L & XL sizes.

What Is So Special About the PostureJac?

There are many products that treat bad posture by pulling the shoulders back, and exercise programs that help people correct poor posture or forward head posture. Why do we need one more?

Postural braces are like casts. Have you ever noticed what the muscles look like after a cast comes off?
Countless millions are spent on treat conditions resulting from poor posture.   Adjustments, spinal manipulations, joint mobilizations, myofascial release and thereapeutic massage is required because of faulty alignment.   They are effective and bring relief,  the body is passive and returns to its old habits.  Unless our bodies recognize new mechanisms, the patterns don't change and the need for medication and treatment continues.

The PostureJac has a different approach to functional body alignment.  It guides the body through a kinetic process of learning a new, correct alignment.   Active re-positioning creates muscle memory or kinaesthetic awareness.  You learn to feel normal with good posture.

Some of the exercise programs advertised are very impressive and they may be effective. However many people need an external device to assist in overcoming old habits.   Among the devices, there is no equal to the PostureJac.

  • Please read on about the unique features of the PostureJac on the Correcting Posture page   Learn how it helps the body develop a kinaesthetic awareness that makes good posture feel normal.
  • Go to the Applications page to see how correcting posture improves your performance and reduces injury.
  • Do you have good posture? The PostureJac can help you preserve it to avoid getting bent over - also called kyphosis, hunchback, upper crossed syndrome, dowagers hump, rounded shoulders posture, etc..   It also reduces the risk factor of developing osteoporosis.
  • Are chronic headaches a problem? They may be rooted in poor alignment that causes strain and mechanical wear in the neck and shoulders.  It is estimated that 20%-30% of chronic headaches originate from problems in this region as well as shoulder, arm, wrist and hand pain and numbness.   See more details on the Correcting Posture page.
  • In  a similar way, chronic or sudden pain in the low back and into the legs may be caused by poor alignment that puts pressure on nerves and tissues.    Changing posture can provide pain release without medication.

"Better postured individuals probably have fewer defects, enjoy better health, and live longer than those with a seriously distorted skeleton." Joseph T. Freeman, M.D., Journal of the American Medical Association, October 19, 1957.

"The PostureJac is extremely user-friendly and educates the patient in correct postural alignment. It also helps maintain proper alignment while exercising."  Deborah K. White, Physical Therapist

I have tested the PostureJac, and must say that this device needs to be considered as much of an option to assist with adjustment programs, as cervical pillows and mirrored exercises. Dr. David Harper BSc., D.C., F.C.C.S.S., PhD Candidate

"That PostureJac is amazing. I use it morning, noon and night Without a doubt it is a dream machine. It took me off pain pills in 3 days after suffering for 2 weeks on pills that didn't help." Alan DeLong, The Computer Guy

"The PostureJac has given me immediate relief from the shooting pain in my leg.   It really is making a difference"  Eugenia Greig

"Observations of the striking influence of postural mechanics on function and symptomatology have led to our hypothesis that posture affects and moderates every physiologic function from breathing to hormonal production. Spinal pain, headache, mood, blood pressure, pulse, and lung capacity are among the functions most easily influenced by posture. The most significant influences of posture are upon respiration, oxygenation, and sympathetic function. Ultimately, it appears that homeostasis and autonomic regulation are intimately connected with posture. The corollary of these observations is that many symptoms, including pain, may be moderated or eliminated by improved posture."   John Lennon, BM, MM, C. Norman Shealy, MD, Roger K. Cady, MD, William Matta, PhD., Richard Cox, PhD, and William F. Simpson, PhD, American Journal of Pain Management, Vol. 4, No. 1, January, 1994

Who Needs The PostureJac?

Almost anyone who is motivated to be actively involved in making dynamic changes to their posture and appearance.  Like other changes such as losing weight or getting in shape, if you are not involved, the change is passive and temporary at best.  Kyphosis remains!  If your posture is good, but you are at risk, the PostureJac is for you too.

Therapy and medication are useful to bring release and relief from chronic pain but that is a passive response to a problem.   The body only learns to depend on expensive treatment.   It needs to be involved in the change.

Many occupations put people at risk of career ending  repetitive strain injuries (RSI).   Take the PostureJac to work!    Use where possible and at point of need!   Pause at regular intervals to return to healthy positions.

This is also a professional tool for physical and occupational therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, personal trainers, coaches etc..  It is being used in clinics across the North American continent.   The most benefit can be received under professional care and feedback.  More information is available on the pages listed below.

Precautions

Good postural alignment forms a vertical axis

For good posture, the ear, mid shoulder, mid hips should form a vertical axis that meets the foot just in front of the ankle.

This provides the ideal center of gravity to bear the weight of our body with the least amount of stress.

It is estimated that over 90% of adult populations deviate from this line and have some symptoms of forward head posture.

For every inch of forward head posture, it can increase the weight of the head on the spine by an additional 10 pounds.” Kapandji, Physiology of Joints, Vol 3.

As our body moves away from the vertical axis, it has a tendancy to shorten in the neck and torso to reduce the loading. Curvature increases in the spine.  Uneven spacing between the vertebrae compresses and herniates the disks, Joints tend to buckle, and wear  accelerates under increased stress.   Muscles shorten and become rigid. Extra energy is required to prevent the body from falling forward.

Living for years with poor alignment leads to chronic pain and organ dysfunction.   Countless billions are spent on medication and treatment of the consequences without correcting the root of the problem - poor posture.
